The LKC is the Cairns Hospital Library & Knowledge Centre. We were previously called the Cairns Base Hospital (CBH) Library. We offer all the same services as before, as well as some new ones.

We still provide services to Cairns & Hinterland and Torres & Cape Hospital and Health Services staff and JCU students and staff on placement at Cairns Hospital.

We changed our name in 2012 to incorporate the word “knowledge” and to reflect the new hospital name (Cairns Hospital).

The name change reflects the nature of our services and the role we can play for the Cairns & Hinterland Hospital and Health Service. That is, to promote knowledge and learning, and support information management.

Knowledge is about gathering information, adding human elements such as insight, experience, and understanding, as well as turning it into usable, actionable improvements to services and processes.

The LKC can assist CHHHS staff with this by providing tools, training and services that contribute to knowledge generation. We also have a key role in preserving organisational knowledge and information assets.
