Staff of Cairns & Hinterland and Torres & Cape Hospital & Health Services, JCU staff and medical students on placement at Cairns Hospital and RFDS & QAS staff are entitled to access our services. See our Use the Library page for further information.

General public, patients and other non-Queensland health staff are not eligible for membership to the Library. The public or patients can access a number of free online health information resources available at our Public Resources website page.

Cairns based health professionals, who are not employed by Queensland Health, can contact LKC to discuss membership fee option.

This paid membership is not available to the general public or patients.

The membership fee entitles health professionals to the following:

  • Loans. Maximum of 5 books at any time from the Cairns Hospital Library general collection (excludes reference or special collections) for 3 weeks. Loan renewals are possible, but only if there is no-one waiting to borrow the item. Interlibrary loans are not available. QH staff have priority access
  • Library staff will assist with basic database search techniques only; eg search strategy on freely available websites eg PubMed. LKC staff cannot undertake searches and provide search results on behalf of paid members.
  • Photocopying, printing, faxing - a fee of 10c per page for B&W or 20c per page for colour printing or copying will be charged.

Assistance is provided for document delivery (article copies) on a case by case, limited basis only.

Members requiring loans for resources not held by Cairns Hospital LKC should approach their local public library for assistance.

Online resources (ie CKN databases, etc) and computer access are not available to external (non-staff) members.

Contact the LKC for further information about paid memberships.
